“You’re nothing…”
These are words I have heard over and over again. These are the words that have consistently affected my life, they were an attempt to convince me I was worthless, that I deserved nothing…
These all hit hard.
But this one…
I know this one. They said it to me, too. “You’re nothing.” “You’re no one.”
This is why I was drawn in to mindfulness, to zen, to engaged buddhism and the worldview it contains: it was the first worldview I found that embraced both the total dark and the total light. It validated the pain I will always have, and the joy I had forgotten was there, too. It cuts the duality, pushes away the fragility of identity by at once destroying and creating it: you are the everything. You have always been…everything.
